Download the conjugation audio for every detected verb, so the drill runs without the network.
Generate sentences
Enter a word or expression you want to shadow. The sentences are written into the standard corpus template — the same columns as your subjunctive and pronominal-verb CSVs — then read back through the ordinary importer, so they behave exactly like hand-made material. Set your generator up under Settings first.

Relay connection
One address and one passphrase power both the ElevenLabs voice and the sentence generator. Set them here once and both work. Leave them empty and both fall back: sentences play in the system voice, and Generate is unavailable. No provider key is ever stored in this browser.
Leave this unticked on a shared or public computer: the passphrase then lasts only until you close the tab. Tick it on your own phone, tablet or laptop, or you will have to type it again every time the app is launched from the Home Screen.
Where a module carries both forms of a line (sono stanco / sono stanca), you get yours, in your voice. The other person's lines keep their own gender and voice.

Pre-download audio
Records the chosen sentences once so they play instantly and work offline. Large scopes take a while — the relay is rate limited, so downloads are paced deliberately.
Sentence generator
Generate builds new sentences around a word you choose. Your app asks your own relay, and the relay asks Google. It uses the same relay address and passphrase set above; there is nothing further to configure here. No Google key is ever stored in this browser.
About Italian Shadowing Studio
What is shadowing?
Shadowing is a way of practising spoken language by listening closely to a model and speaking along with it, following just behind the speaker.
Rather than simply listening to a sentence and repeating it afterwards, you try to reproduce what you hear as you hear it: the words, sounds, stress, rhythm, phrasing and intonation.
This brings listening and speaking together. You train your ear to hear Italian accurately while training your voice to produce it.
From knowing Italian to speaking Italian
Understanding a language and being able to speak it freely are not quite the same skill.
You may know a word or grammatical structure perfectly well, yet still have to stop and think before you can use it. Shadowing helps turn things you know into things you can do.
Through repeated listening and speaking, words, phrases and grammatical structures become increasingly familiar. Instead of having to build every sentence consciously, common patterns begin to come to you more readily.
The aim is to internalise the language: to absorb its sounds, structures and patterns until producing them becomes increasingly natural and automatic.
Practise language like a musician
There is a close parallel between shadowing and the way a musician practises.
A musician does not learn a difficult passage simply by understanding the notes. The passage has to be repeated. It may be slowed down, broken into smaller parts and practised again and again.
Gradually, something changes. What first required intense concentration becomes easier. The music is absorbed by the brain and the body. The fingers learn the movements, the ear anticipates the sounds, and eventually the passage can flow without every action having to be consciously directed.
Shadowing approaches spoken language in much the same way.
A new Italian structure may at first feel awkward and require conscious thought. Through repeated listening and speaking, its words, sounds and patterns become increasingly absorbed by the brain and body. The mouth becomes accustomed to producing them, the ear becomes accustomed to hearing them, and the structure itself becomes familiar.
With enough good practice, thought becomes action, and action becomes flow.
Why this app?
Italian Shadowing Studio is designed as a practice room for spoken Italian.
It lets you work with small, useful pieces of language: slowing them down, repeating them, adding pauses and returning to them until they become comfortable.
The purpose is not to memorise hundreds of sentences. The sentences are models through which you practise the building blocks of the language. As words and structures recur in different combinations, they become more deeply internalised and increasingly available when you want to speak for yourself.
Like musical practice, repetition should not be mindless. Listen carefully. Notice what is difficult. Slow it down when necessary. Repeat it. Then try it again at a natural pace.
Where does shadowing come from?
Shadowing has its roots in research into speech and in interpreter training, where listening and speaking at the same time are essential skills. It was later developed as a method for second-language learning and has been particularly influential in language teaching in Japan.
Today, shadowing is used to develop closer listening, clearer pronunciation, more natural rhythm and greater ease in producing spoken language.
The philosophy behind Italian Shadowing Studio can be summed up simply:
Listen. Understand. Imitate. Repeat. Internalise. Flow.
The goal is not to become good at repeating recordings.
The goal is to practise Italian until its sounds and structures become part of you, and increasingly available when you speak.
